How to Talk to a Child About Adoption:
Infancy to 6 Years

This workshop is for adoptive; pre-adoptive parents and professionals working with these families.
Some adoption agencies will accept this workshop as credit toward the home study requirements. Certificates will be issued upon request.
In this workshop you will learn:
- How to create a safe family atmosphere in which adoption can be openly discussed
- A model for understanding what a child can understand about adoption at different ages and stages of development.
- How to lay a foundation for talking to children about adoption.
- How to answer children's early questions about adoption
- Understand which issues are really hard for children to deal with and which issues are actually harder for parents.

Workshop Facilitator: Joni Mantell, LCSW, Director IAC Center is a psychotherapist specializing in adoption since 1993; a frequent feature writer and contributor to the "Ask the Expert" column for Adoptive Families magazine, where she is known for her ability to integrate and differentiate adoption, child developmental and other psychological issues.
