Adoption presents individuals with additional life tasks and some complex issues.
If you experience any of these feelings you will benefit from this group:
Have intense reactions to loss or change
Struggle with fears of abandonment or about intimacy
Experience loyalty conflict with your family(s)
Feel different, uncertain about where you fit in
Are uncertain about searching for your biological family
Want to explain or explore your feelings about adoption but have trouble finding the words
Experience deep emotions that are overwhelming or confusing and feel related to your adoption
In this group you will have an opportunity to explore these issues with like-minded peers and to learn from each other’s experiences, perspectives and wisdom.
The group will be facilitated by Susan Merkel, MSW, LSW under the supervision of Joni Mantell, LSW, IAC Center Director. Susan received her MSW from Rutgers University in 2012; is a certified Bowen Family System and Beck CBT therapist; has been an advocate with NJ Care and the American Adoption Congress since 2011 and is an adult adoptee.
