Frontload Your Child NOW To Meet the Challenges of Growing Up

This workshop is for: Adoptive parents of children and teenagers; adoptive parents to be; and professionals.

Speaker and Moderator: Bridget Devine, LSW, IAC Center Counselor has extensive clinical experience working with all adoption triad members; families of children and teens with age-typical concerns, psychological and behavioral issues, developmental delays and learning disabilities. She has facilitated parenting courses based on “How to Talk so Kids Will Listen” and “Love and Logic” curriculums and leads adoptive parent groups; and children and teen groups for the IAC Center.

The Workshop Format will include didactic presentation, experiential exercises, and an opportunity for participants to break-out into groups according to the ages of their children.

You will learn how to:

Lay foundation NOW to minimize some of the special issues adopted teens and parents may experience.

To respond to your child in ways that will reinforce their self-esteem, belonging, emotional connection and sense of security.

Understand the challenges and needs children experience at each developmental stage.

Strategies for effective communication including age-appropriate limit setting.

How to identify and work with personal obstacles to being the type of parent you want to be.
