How to Make an Adoption Lifebook – This workshop is for parents in all stages of adoption; from pre-adopt to post-adopt, and is equally applicable to domestic and international adoption.

Workshop Facilitator: Sasha Martone, MSW, IAC Center Counselor whose interest in Adoption Lifebooks began while working with families formed through adoption and became a personal passion while in the process of adopting her two daughters

Session 1: Time: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. – The Adoption Lifebook Basics
Speaker: Carrie Kitze Children’s Adoption Book author, publisher and originator of the Yahoo Lifebook Group
The Adoption Lifebook can serve as one of the tools to open up dialogue between you and your child about adoption. Learn the key reasons for creating a Lifebook; the usual components; and the different issues involved in creating Lifebooks for children who were in foster care, adopted as newborns domestically and adopted internationally. How to handle difficult information in an age appropriate way that lays the groundwork for a child’s understanding of his history will also be discussed.

Session 2: Time: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – The How-to’s

You will learn the basics about creating an Adoption Lifebook for your child utilizing both digital and traditional album making tools. How to get started, sample language, album formats and tips to help you complete this project will be presented. Hands on training and making a sample card using scrapbooking materials will also be demonstrated. REMEMBER to bring 2-4 photos to make your sample card.
